NFL Week 8: DFS Picks | FanDuel DraftKings
UPDATE: With the news Alvin Kamara, David Johnson, OJ Howard, Matt Ryan and likely Keenan Allen, will all miss this week that definitely shakes up your targets. I don’t have much confidence in Matt Schaub playing against the Seahawks. Latavius Murray has the best matchup of them all and should be the every-down back like he was last week. The Saints are double-digit favorites with an implied team total over 30 so Murray should feed. Directly on the other side of the game you have Chase Edmonds who had a monster week last week. Edmonds unfortunately isn’t going to score 3 TD’s this week and the Saints rush defence is pretty stout. Like mentioned above, the Cardinals are double-digit underdogs so it’s not pointing to a great play. With Keenan Allen set to miss that provides a huge boost to Mike Williams and Hunter Henry. They are playing at the Bears in a low scoring game but their salaries are low enough and targets should be there to pay off. If the Bears D had a weakness it would be to Tight Ends (ranking 22nd) so Hunter might be your play here. Lastly, Cameron Brate is a great source of value on the TE front in an okay matchup against the Titans.
This week features only two games with a projected total over 50 points: Seahawks at Falcons (53.5 Total) and the Raiders at Texans (51.5 Total). I tend to shy away from low scoring games but this week you can find good plays on each low scoring game – those are: Chargers at Bears (40.5 Total), Jets at Jaguars (41.5 Total) and Panthers at 49ers (41.5 Total).
Lets get to it. Here are our NFL Week 8 picks for the 12 game main slate:
Deshaun Watson – Leading the QB class this week with with one of the highest game totals and highest FPPG will undoubtedly carry high ownership but eating the chalk this week isn’t a bad idea as the Raiders are 24th against QB this year.
Josh Allen – Picking on the Eagles passing defence has been a fruitful strategy this year. The thing I like about Allen is playing against the Titans and Patriots has brought down his FPPG average, removing those games and he averages 21 FPPG. I’m expecting a 3TD game from his this week.
Matthew Stafford – Fresh of a 4TD game, Stafford gets to sink his teeth into the Giants in what should be the 3rd highest scoring game on the slate. With Kerryon Johnson going to miss the rest of the season they should lean on the Passing game yet again. He’s my top play this week.
Leonard Fournette – The Jets are 27th against the rush which makes Fournette my focus. I feel he has a similar upside to Saquon and is a few thousand dollars cheaper. Plus, the Jags are 6 points favorites vs the Giants 7 point underdogs so I’ll take the safety and savings.
Chris Carson – Sign me up. (1) Highest scoring game on the slate (2) favorites by four points (3) over 24 touches in four straight games. Carson has a wonderful floor with 30FP upside.
Ty Johnson – After Kerryon Johnson went down last game Johnson stepped up and played 64% of Detroit’s offensive snaps and at less than $4900 on DK this is have huge potential to pay off.
As always, you want to stack your WR and QB’s so DeAndre Hopkins, Kenny Stills, Kenny Golladay and John Brown are all great plays and a combination will be in the majority of my lineups. The matchups are all great and will get their targets. I’ll also be looking at Patriots Dorsett or Sanu to pick up the slack left by Gordon going on IR as well as DK Metcalfe or Tyler Lockett for the Seahawks in the highest total on the slate.
Austin Hooper – A consistent top play on a weekly basis and this week is no different. There’s nothing different to say – he’s averages 18 FPPG, the Falcons play from behind and their games are usually high scoring. They have Matt Schaub starting and a TE is always a good crutch for a new QB.
Hunter Henry – He averages close to 20 FPPG and surprisingly the Bears are 26th against TE’s. He has Rivers’ confidence and will see at minimum 5 targets this game. You could do worse this week.
Noah Fant – He’s been on my models for weeks and thankfully I haven’t played him, however, this week might change with the departure of Emmanuel Sanders. Fant was brought in as a pass-catching TE and should see more targets against the 24th ranked defence against TEs.
Matthew Stafford, Kenny Golladay + Evan Engram (NYG @ DET)
Evan Engram isn’t popping on my models but he should see close to 8 targets in what should be a high scoring game. What I like about this stack is it’s rather inexpensive allowing you to easy fit in Deandre Hopkins who should lead WRs in FP’s this week. The matchup for the Lions is great and Stafford is coming off a solid 4TD game. Keep riding the hot hand.
Deshaun Watson, Deandre Hopkins + Tyrell Williams (if playing) or Waller (if not) (OAK @ HOU)
In what should be a popular stack as you have two players who are expected to lead their positions in points and you’re bringing it back against target magnets on the other side. If Oakland can keep this game close there should be firework all over the field in this game. Oakland doesn’t have a great defence and if Williams is back there is a good chance Oakland offence gets a boost they are desperately missing these past few weeks.
Russell Wilson, Tyler Lockett + Julio Jones/Calvin Ridley (SEA @ ATL)
The trade of Sanu should open up a few extra targets to either receiver and in what should be a high scoring and close game. Seattle has to travel entirely across the country for this game so you could catch them jet lagged and just a step slower. Still, Russell is the favorite for MVP and can easily carve the shaky Falcons D to the tune of 3TDs.
